Camp Nou, stadium of FC Barcelona

The largest football stadium in Europe

The football club FC Barcelona is hostet in the Camp Nou stadium. After the dismantling of the Central Stadium in Leipzig, the Camp Nou is the largest football stadium in Europe.
In September 1957 the Camp Nou was inaugurated after three years of construction. During the World Cup 1982, the stadium was enhanced to the highest rank.

Originally the stadium of FC Barcelona had after this expansion of approximately 120,000 seats. Because of requirements of UEFA, the space was reduced at around 98,000 seats.

The Camp Nou stadium is 48 meters high, 250 meters long and 220 meters wide. In total, the stadium includes an area of 55,000 m2. All seats can be evacuated within 5 minutes.
It should be further developed so that it is used for 115,000 spectators and thus has almost the original capacity.

The FC Barcelona, Barça or Futbol Club Barcelona

The Football Club Barcelona, or Barça (read: barssa), has existed since the 18th November 1899. Initiator was the Swiss-born Hans Gamber. The jersey colours red and blue are in honour of FC Basel, in which Gamber played as captain. The team of FC Barcelona traditionally runs without jersey advertising, which is certainly unique in professional football. Only from 2005, the FC Barcelona supports the own Foundation's Children's Fund UNICEF and was also the emblem of the organisation.

The FC Barcelona is with nearly 160,000 members the world's largest association. The association's members have right of first refusal for the tickets for home games. For this reason, it is almost impossible to trade on the regular cards. Only card exploiters offer the cards available, but mostly to high prices. Historically, this strong position of the members, because many fan (Penyes) supported the club with the ever-increasing costs of the Camp Nou.

The FC Barcelona include several sports sections, such as handball, football, hockey, basketball, etc.

El Nou Camp Nou

On 22 September 2007, the draft of the new stadium was presented to the public. The contract for the planning of the stadium renovation was the renowned architectural firm Norman Foster. In about 5-6 years, the extension ended.

The aim of the new building is to give the stadium its own distinctive appearance, with the unmistakable connection to the FC Barcelona. In addition, there will be some improvements. So there will be new VIP areas, the logistics will be improved facilities for the media will be improved, barriers for people with disabilities fall away. And most importantly, it gets its old size. In the Nou Camp Nou will be 115,000 people can watch a football game, it is then the largest football stadium in the world.

The facade can be illuminated similar to the Allianz Arena in Munich, adjust to the time of day and the event. Also modernist elements can be found in the stadium.

Training of the team

The training will take place daily, morning and afternoon. The two training fields are the Mini Estadi, it also fit into at least 16,000 spectators, or on the training ground "La Mesía" close to the Camp Nou. See also "Camp Nou on the map". The small stadium is often open to the public. The times will be announced in the sports newspaper "Sport" and "Mundo Deportivo".
